The Cary Arts Center is a massive facility dedicated to the enrichment of the arts, whether it be music, theater, sculpture or paint. All of the galleries within the Cary Arts Center are full of meaningful pieces donated by local artists, which makes it a fine destination to discover a wealth of new talents in the heart of North Carolina. The Center also features a 431-seat theater, where visitors can enjoy locally produced plays and musical performances throughout the year, with multiple productions or events occurring throughout the year. Fascinating throughout, the Cary Arts Center is a wonderful destination for a little entertainment, inspiration, or simply an afternoon of fun.
History of the Cary Arts Center
In 1869, the soon-to-be-mayor of soon-to-be-Cary Frank Page set aside the land that the Center now sits on for the purpose of building the town’s first school, Cary Academy. 27 years later, the academy was purchased and chartered with the state as “Cary High School,” serving both local and regional students. Over the years, many additions were added to the school, and the site grew and grew as it expanded. Finally, in 2003, the old school was purchased by the Town of Cary in order to create a hub for the budding arts district in downtown Cary.
