The Page-Walker Arts & History Center
History and contemporary arts are masterfully combined at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center – a unique destination in the heart of Cary for a wide range of creative pursuits. Located in the heart of the city but distinct for its 19th century hotel facade, this popular destination provides a fine opportunity to discover the culture, history, and artistic inclinations of this central North Carolina community.
The Page-Walker Arts & History Center is housed within the original Page-Walker Hotel, which was built in 1868 and which provided lodgings for travelers along the Southern and Seaboard Air Line railroads.
After its tenure as a fairly elegant hotel, the building served as a boarding house and later a private residence from around 1916 until 1980, when it finally closed its doors. For a few years after the Page-Walker Hotel ceased operations, the structure was abandoned and started to deteriorate until the Cary Town Council stepped in and purchased the property. Today, the Page-Walker Arts & History Center has been beautifully restored to its original condition, and provides a far-reaching range of opportunities for visitors to dive deeper into Cary’s arts and history.
There are a number of facilities, amenities, and educational opportunities found within the Page-Walker Arts & History Center.
The site features a museum, the Cary Heritage Museum, as well as gallery exhibitions that change regularly and which often feature contemporary and local acclaimed artists. In addition, the Page-Walker Arts & History Center has an archive room for researchers, a smokehouse and garden, and a wide range of classrooms and meeting spaces where a wealth of private and public educational opportunities are held.
